She attributes much of her business acumen to her adopted father, Donald Lynn who was a real estate investor and the Mayor of Occoquan. As a young girl, Kelly rode along with Dad in his pickup truck as he drove around town conducting business. In 2017, Kelly discovered her biological father after many years of searching. She’s writes about that experience in her blog, My Sister’s Name is Kelly
In 2003, Kelly was doing administrative work for an executive at America Online. While considering getting back into real estate, her husband Steve challenged her with the question, “Do you want to be somebody’s secretary for the rest of your life or do you want to be your own boss?” After a moment of reflection, Kelly answered “I want to bet on me!” In her first year of real estate she managed $10 million dollars in transactions and never looked back.
